6 Ways to Reduce Bloating

From experimenting with my own diet, and informing myself on what’s good for my health and digestive system, I’ve found that reducing, or taking certain foods out and replacing them with a healthier alternative, has made a massive difference to bloating of my stomach.
- Eat SPELT BREAD instead of white bread. White bread has very little nutritional value. Spelt is an ancient grain that the body can digest easily. You can buy spelt bread from any health food store, and even supermarkets these days. And it tastes great.
- Eat RICE PASTA (made from brown rice) instead of the normal wheat pasta you would buy. I cannot stress how much of a difference this made to my bloating! You know the feeling you have after eating a big bowl of spaghetti – bloated, full. You’ll be surprised how good you feel after a hearty bowl of rice pasta. And you’ll notice that your stomach is not as bloated. Again, it’s easier for the body to digest.
- Eat BROWN RICE instead of white rice. Again, the body can easily digest the brown rice, and it’s better for your digestive system as it contains more fibre. If you’re buying thai or chinese take away, cook the brown rice at home before you go out and buy the dishes. It does take longer to cook than white rice (about 30 – 40 mins) but it’s worth it.
- Cut out carbohydrates at night time and just eat protein with vegies or salad. If you do this for a couple of days, you’ll see a massive difference!
- Eat RAW VEGETABLES for a whole day (preferably more) to cleanse out the digestive system and bring in nutrient rich food. After about 3 days of eating raw vegetables you will feel absolutely amazing! Of course it will be a challenge at first to resist those temptations, but you can trick your mind by telling it it’s only for a day or two! That’s what I do. For some reason, our mind automatically clings to things we think we can’t have, and we have this natural feeling that we’re never going to be able to have that food again! I personally think that’s a big reason why cravings kick in. If you tell yourself that you can have chocolate anytime you actually want, and when you CHOOSE to, the mind and the cravings definitely relax. And hey, there’s nothing wrong with making it your reward for doing 3 days of raw vegetables! You may even find you don’t even want that piece of chocolate ;)
- If you’re like me, and can feel red meat sitting in your stomach for days after eating it (that’s why I don’t eat it very often) – just have a really small portion, or have meat that’s been ground a little (like mince) instead of a chunky steak – this can help with digestion. Better still, eat more fish and chicken. If you’re going to a bbq at someone elses house, go for the meat pattie instead of the steak.
The key is to really get in tune with your body and emotions – see how you feel after you eat certain foods – take notice of how you feel emotionally (do you feel flat & dull or high & light?), take notice of how your body feels (tired or high energy?), and choose to mainly eat the foods that bring positive emotions, and high energy.
