How To Live Longer

I just came across a very interesting interview with best-selling author Dan Buettner who has carried out extensive studies to identify longevity hotspots around the world, documented in his book “The Blue Zones”, along with Geneticist Aubrey de Grey ; the Chief Scientific Officer of SENS Foundation, which researches and promotes regenerative medicine.
They discuss aging, longevity and the future of regenerative medicine.
Some things that caught my attention:
- Aging & longevity of life is 10% genetic & 90% lifestyle
- Aging is not programmed and the regenerative medicine of the future is working towards stopping the degenerative process
- The key things that increase longevity of life will in turn bring increased happiness
- Cutting out red meat will decrease risk of heart disease
- Reducing stress can extend to your life
- Small lifestyle changes could add another decade to your life
Dan Buettner says “living a purposeful life can add at least another 7 years to your life…”
In japanese this is called “Ikigai” – and translates to ’something important one lives for’, and ‘a reason for being’
- and this is what The Soul Room is all about…
