Be Aware: Not all essential oils are 100% pure

Adulteration (which is the ‘stretching’ or ‘extending’) of genuine essential oils is common practice within the essential oil industry.  This common practice  is used to increase company profits, or to ‘standardize’ an essential oil.

Perfumers are the biggest users of essential oils.  To ensure their perfumes smell the same, year after year, perfumers will adulterate or rectify an oil so it’s smell and chemical makeup are consistent,  hence their product creations then remain consistent.   Many factors can affect the chemical makeup and smell of an essential oil, including environmental conditions, and where in the world the plant is grown.

Unfortunately, these adulterated oils intended for use by perfumers, enter into the aromatherapy supply chain and are sold to us, the average consumer, and also health practitioners, as pure, 100% genuine essential oils.

‘100% essential oil’ written on a label is definitely NOT a guarantee that the contents are pure, and unadulterated.

Any type of adulteration alters an essential oils naturally occurring, synergistic components.  The naturally occurring components of an oil is what aromatherapists believe to be the ‘life force’ or ‘essence’ of the plant, and is what brings immense therapeutic benefits.
